LOCAL GOVERNMENT

In March 2008, the councils of Noosa Shire, Maroochy Shire and Caloundra City amalgamated to form the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC). Until the new Council reviews and consolidates its operations, the local council regulations, laws, plans, policies and services in existence prior to amalgamation will continue to apply for the geographical areas of the former shires. Noosa Shire Council is now known as the SCRC Tewantin Office.

Councillors and the Mayor are elected for four year terms with elections being held in leap years. The Mayor is the leader of the Council, responsible for ensuring that Council's policies and decisions are implemented. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for implementing the Council's policies and decisions and for the management of the day-to-day affairs of Council. Noosa Waters residents, represented by the Noosa Waters Residents Association, have a Partnering Charter with the former Noosa Council.

Neighbourhood Watch is a programme organised by the community in order to reduce residential crime. It is about working together as a community to improve our personal safety and household security. Most importantly, it is about encouraging interaction and a sense of responsibility between neighbours and communities.
