One of the finest croquet clubs in Australia is right here in Noosa Waters - the Noosa Croquet Club. The five manicured courts, surrounded by a leafy backdrop and gardens, are situated at the end of Seashell Place (off Seacove Court which is off Shorehaven Drive) and the club has been going almost as long as Noosa Waters itself.
Over the years many residents have played there and a lot of friendships have been formed. Being a very social club, the emphasis is on having a good time and enjoying the many social events such as breakfast by the river, Melbourne Cup days, dinner evenings, Christmas in July and open days.
Croquet is a very gentle sport, though lots of fun, and is perfect for those looking for an alternative to tennis, lawn bowls or golf, especially in the summer. While not physically demanding, croquet will challenge you mentally as it is a game based on strategy and out-manoeuvring your opponents.
The courts were developed by club members for the residents of Noosa Waters and there are over 50 members ranging from expert State players to newcomers to the sport. There are Come and Try Days and the experienced players willingly devote time to encouraging those who have never played before.
New members are always welcome and anyone who is interested should come along any Wednesday or Friday afternoon from 1pm and have a game. It's free of charge and all sporting equipment is provided. All you need to take is a pair of flat soled shoes.
Games are played at various times during the week and if you would like more information on having a game, or joining the club, call John, the President, on 5455 6201.
The clubhouse has just been extended, the beautiful courts have never looked lovelier and additional shelters have been erected in which to relax and have a chat, or just get out of the sun.
